Practical information

Getting around

The easiest way to get around in Utrecht is by bike or foot. Within the city center everything is reachable by foot. Outside the center we recommend taking a bike or bus. Please be sure that your bike has good lock, as bikes can get stolen. One additional tip: remember where you parked your bike. It can be quite difficult to find it back between all other bikes.

Eating and drinking

Many restaurants are located around the curve in the Oude Gracht. It can be very pleasant to have your dinner in the open air on the wharfs near the canal, but eating and drinking can be done at many other places as well. The Neude has many sidewalk cafes, but others can also be found near the Wed and Tolsteegbarrière. You may also have a look at this tourist map.

Tap water in Utrecht (and the Netherlands) is safe to drink and it’s one of the best and tastiest tap water in the world. Buying water in bottles is not necessary. It is often said that tap water in the Netherlands is even healthier than mineral water you buy in the supermarket.
